When it comes to picking out and choosing a guitar for a kid or a child for something such as a Birthday Gift or Christmas Present you must consider several points. Without considering these points you may be just throwing money out the window as your guitar purchase proves to be a bad choice. Below I will list everything you should consider including the overall cost of buying the right guitar.

Which would interest the child more, An Electric Guitar or an Acoustic?

The reason that I ask this is because of the child’s excitement and interest. You may think they would love any guitar at all but you would be terribly mistaken. The best way to find out what they would prefer is to find out what types of music do they listen too. If they listen to Rock and Roll you should know that they want an Electric Guitar, if they listen to country then most likely an acoustic.

How old or big is the Child?

A child’s size is very important as they need to be able to wrap their fingers around the neck and be able to play multiple different chords. If too big a guitar is purchased then they will most likely get frustrated and start believing they could never learn guitar and that it’s too hard to play. Make it as easy for the child to learn and play by supplying them the right tools to learn and have fun. If a child is not enjoying it and it becomes like work they will drop the guitar as easy as dropping a stone.

Be reasonable in the reward and don't promise something you can't deliver. If they reach their goal or the goal you have set for them they will expect the reward as soon as they have done so. If you put it off or don't give them their reward chances are they will lose interest in practicing and learning the gutar.
